PHOTOROOM BACKGROUND REMOVER ALTERNATIVE

Need a Photoroom alternative for removing photo backgrounds?

Photoroom is built around isolating a subject and continuing into product-photo design. My Look Story's background workspace focuses on a transparent cutout, a solid-color version or a blur of the original scene. Those are overlapping but not identical jobs. This guide helps you decide whether you need an ecommerce design system or a clean subject file, then check the edges before you publish.

The short answer

Stay with Photoroom if you rely on its product-listing compositions, templates or wider commerce workflow. Try My Look Story if your immediate task is to separate a person or object, retain a transparent PNG and optionally create a simple color or blurred-background version in a photo-first workspace. No public demonstration can guarantee clean hair, fur, glass or fabric edges on your image. Test a photo you can use and inspect the actual cutout before downloading.

Compare the work, not a made-up winner

Photoroom's official help describes background removal and replacement. Our live tool describes cutout, color and original-scene blur. The rows below are feature/workflow checks, not claims of superior accuracy.

What do you need to export?Photoroom's help describes a transparent result, then options to restore the background, replace it with a color, image or AI-generated background. My Look Story keeps a transparent PNG available. You can also choose a solid color or soften the source scene with blur while keeping the subject clear. If your next design app needs transparency, inspect the downloaded PNG itself—not only the checkerboard preview.
Is this a product-listing project?Photoroom's public workflow extends into product-photo presentation and replacement scenes. That breadth may matter for a seller making a complete listing. Our background workspace is narrower: cut out the subject and optionally create a color or blurred variant. It does not claim to reproduce every Photoroom commerce template.Choose the tool by deliverable. A plain cutout is different from a finished marketplace design.
One photo or several?Photoroom offers workflows for production at scale, but its current limits and plan terms need checking directly with Photoroom. The background workspace exposes a single-photo mode and a batch mode. Check the current per-image cost and batch limit in the tool before starting.Batch availability is not evidence that every difficult edge will be handled correctly. Review results individually.
Where can the cutout fail?Automatic separation can be difficult when subject and background share colors, or when transparent objects and fine hairs overlap the scene. The same edge cases matter here. Inspect wispy hair, pet fur, glass, lace, narrow handles, shadows and any holes inside the object. We have not performed a controlled accuracy or speed test of both tools on the same images.

Choose based on the final asset

01

Use Photoroom for a broader selling workflow

If your work depends on product layouts, scene replacement and a familiar ecommerce production system, Photoroom's own tools may be the better fit. Check its current plan, export and commercial terms directly.

02

Try My Look Story for transparent, color or blur

When the immediate deliverable is a subject cutout, a neutral background or a softened original scene, start with our background workspace. Keep the transparent file so it can be reused elsewhere.

03

Use manual editing for unforgiving edges

Automatic removal is not a guarantee for glass, fine fur, sheer fabric or overlapping hair. If a catalog or client requires pixel-level fidelity, inspect and manually retouch or use the original photo.

Prepare an image that separates well

01

Check subject contrast

A product against a similar-colored wall or a dark hairstyle against a dark room gives an algorithm less information. If possible, reshoot with visible separation and space around the entire object.

02

Decide the background purpose

Transparent PNG is useful for later layout. A solid color can make a catalog consistent. Blur keeps some of the original context, which is often more natural for a portrait. Do not treat these as interchangeable outputs.

03

Know your rights and cost

Use an image you may upload and edit. Before submitting a batch, confirm current credits, file formats and limits shown by each product; do not rely on a dated comparison for live prices.

Inspect the downloaded result

01

Edges and holes

Zoom into hair, fur, fingers, straps, bicycle spokes and handles. Look for missing pieces, retained background and rough halos along the silhouette.

02

Transparency on contrasting backgrounds

Place the exported PNG on both light and dark colors. A checkerboard in the editor can hide pale fringing or an unwanted matte.

03

Fit for the destination

For a marketplace, check its image rules and whether your shadow, background and product scale are allowed. For a profile or presentation, inspect the full-size cutout and the final composite.

Limits and honest disclosure

This page is not a claim that My Look Story is faster, more accurate or cheaper than Photoroom. Photoroom's described capabilities come from its official help page checked September 29, 2026. We verified the public My Look Story background tool route and its visible options, but not a statistically meaningful set of paid outputs. Automatic cutouts can alter fine edges or remove parts of a subject. Current credit costs, resolution and commercial rights must be checked in each product before use. The illustration below is our own display image, not a Photoroom output or comparative test.

How this guide was made

We reviewed Photoroom's official background-removal help and public product workflow, compared them with My Look Story's production background page, and mapped the overlap to actual user deliverables. Pollo AI's brand-search pages informed the idea of a sourced, navigable comparison; they provided no traffic numbers and no evidence of cutout quality. We did not copy competitor images or run identical source photos through paid plans. Recheck official sources when features or plan terms change.
